Working on a Derby Car

Throughout building a car there are many ways you can use your Dremel rotary tool and a variety of accessories.

For this project we're gonna focus mainly on the shaping and sanding of your wood block to create its desired shape. Here we'll be using a Dremel 300 series tool, the Multi- Vise a #543 Cutting/ Shaping wheel and for sanding you can use any of the sanding drums depending on which grit you prefer. You can also use any Dremel variable or two speed rotary tool to complete this project. After your pattern is traced on the wood you can place it in the Multi-Vise, then make your cuts using a smooth and even motion to even out the rough edges.

Attach the sanding band of your choice and again use steady and even motions to smooth out the surface. No need to push hard pushing harder will really remove more materiel it'll just
wear out the sanding band more quickly. Let the speed of the tool do the work make any other cuts to achieve your desired shape and ad the finishing touches of your choice like paint and decals. Now your car is complete.

For this project, we'll be using a Dremel Trio a Hard Wood Sheet Metal Bit #TR563, a Corner Rounding router bit #TR615, and a #120 grit sanding band #TR432. We'll also be using a Dremel Multi-Max with a Hook & Loop pad #MM11 and a Wood Sandpaper assortment M70W.

First, mark your cut lines onto a board no thicker than on half inch. Before cutting always secure the piece you'll be working on, making sure theres clearance between the top of your bit and the top of your work bench. Using a high speed begin your cut using a firm grasp for control. Remember to se the top of your foot so that en eighth or a quarter of inch extends to the bottom of your workpiece. After you're finished unplug your tool for a quick change to sanding accessories. Use a low grit count sanding band to smooth out a less than perfect edge. Use a higher grit count for a finished edge. Run your tool at mid to low speed for sanding applications. Try the available dust extraction attachment to keep your workspace clean.

We'll start routing using a piloted corner routing bit #TR615 to dress our edge. The foot you see here differs from the foot your tool is equipped with. Use the trio at a high speed and be sure to let the tool. Pushing a router bit to hard too fast will diminish it's usable life and will damage your workpiece.

Learn to cut holes in siding to make room for outdoor outlets and other necessities with the Dremel Trio.

Traditionally, vinyl siding is cut with large cumbersome tin snip which can become painful to use, especially with a big project. Cutting vinyl siding is easy with a Dremel Trio.

For this project we're using a Dremel Trio, Multi-Purpose Cutting Bit #TR561. Here, we'll be cutting siding to fit an outdoor electrical box and an electrical box facing plate. Before cutting, always secure the siding you'll be working on. Make sure you've got enough clearance between the bottom of your cutting bit and the top of whatever surface is below where your cutting. Here we're using a work bench with ar emovable panel to suspend our siding. Make sure the foot of the Trio clears the clamps through our entire cut.

Our electrical box spans two parts of siding, so our cut will stop at the sidings edge. No worries if you need to make a cut at the center, our tool makes that super easy. Run your tool at a medium speed level when working with plastic and vinyl to keep the material from metal as you cut. Remember the bits tip should extend a quarter to an eighth of an inch through the siding. Unlike a pair of tin snips, the Trio can quickly and easily change directions mid-cut. You won't need to turn the tool on corners, just lead the bit wherever it needs to go. You'll notice the Trio cuts right through vinyl, so slow and steady is your best bet for ensuring accurate results.

here are some more thoughts on cutting vinyl siding for an electrical outlet. Shut off any electrical boxes you're working around. Minimize the risk of cutting electrical wires by backing them into the conduit leading to any electifcal box you may be tarcing around. Work in clockwise motion using a multi-bit.

Learn to cut through vinyl gutter using the Dremel Trio!

Downspouts are additionally too few and too far between and can't drain a roof's water fast enough. Adding a downspout with the help of a Dremel Trio is not difficult. In this project we'll be using a Dremel Trio and a Multi-Purpose Cutting Bit #TR561.

Use the downspout receiver to trace the whole to the bottom of the gutter. Begin your cut by plunging into the corner of the area you've marked to cut. Use a medium speed to cut vinyl and plastic to minimize your risk of melting or burning. Pushing the tool will only lead to shorter bit life and less precise cuts. Once your cut is complete, rehang the gutter, drop in your downspout receiver, seal where it meets the gutter, and screw the downspout in place.

Here are some more thoughts. If you try cutting gutter while it's still in place, ensure that the gutter is dry and follow all ladder safety precautions. Work in a clockwise motion to adjust the Multi-Purpose Cutting Bit. Make sure to adjust the depth of the tool's foot so your cutting bit adjusts an eighth to a quarter of an inch through the gutter.
